A terrible bill has just been introduced in Tennessee that would absolutely gut homeschool freedom in a state that has long respected parents’ rights. HB 1729 drags Tennessee toward the worst homeschool states in America – where bureaucrats, testing mandates, and state control dominate family education.
This bill is dangerous. Just look at the details!
• Forced standardized testing: Homeschool students in grades 5, 7, and 9 must take a nationally normed standardized test, whether you like it or not. No parental choice. 📊
• Mandatory data reporting: All homeschool test results are sent to the parent, the local school district, and the State Board of Education. That’s permanent state tracking of every homeschool child’s records!
• State intervention for “low scores”: Failing to meet state benchmarks triggers forced consultations and state-directed remediation. The Government would step right in and imagine where that leads – does CPS get called if you don’t agree to the State’s “Remediation” plan? Are the children taken away? Who knows!
• Forced enrollment: Two years below the 25th percentile allows school officials to remove your child from homeschooling and mandate institutional enrollment. 🛑
Have a kid who struggles with math? A dyslexic child who has a hard time reading? The STATE would now get to take your child and enroll them in their failing, crime ridden schools!
This is absolute tyranny dressed up as “oversight” and it will end homeschooling freedom in Tennessee.
