There’s a storm brewing in New Jersey — and it’s headed straight for your homeschool.
Right now, three bills are moving through the state legislature that would radically change what it means to homeschool in New Jersey.
These bills would strip away your God-given right to direct your child’s education and hand it over to the same broken system many of us walked away from in the first place.
And while these bill sponsors are spending the summer building support for these bills and doing back handed deals to garner support, we need to take this time to get loud and say NO!
Let me quickly break them down for you:
A5825, A5796, and S4589 would force homeschool parents to:
❌ Turn in a curriculum plan that matches public school standards (yes, that means DEI, “gender identity,” climate activism etc etc etc).
❌ Submit written notice to your local superintendent, including your child’s name, age, and who is teaching them. Though this specific bill (S.B. 1796) has been essentially “paused” for now due to public outcry.
❌ Keep a portfolio of student work all year long.
❌ Have your child evaluated annually by a licensed teacher or psychologist — not by YOU, the parent who knows and loves them best.
❌ Annual in-person meetings between you, your child, and a school district representative.
❌A “wellness check” of your child — whatever that ends up meaning. (Let’s be real… these kinds of mandates have a history of being weaponized against families with Conservative values.)
❌ File a letter of intent with the superintendent including your child’s birth date and grade level — without any privacy protections even in place.

Did you catch that? They want a government official or social worker to interview your kids. And we have NO IDEA what questions they’ll ask!
“Do you and your family own any weapons? Did Mommy take you to the doctor the last time you were sick or did she just make you stay home? Have you had all your shots?”
Madelyn, this is not “harmless” red tape.
They want control over your child’s mind and they’ll use woke ‘curriculum standards’ to do it.
They want to insert school district officials into your life and they’ll use ‘health and wellness’ language to justify it.
They want to make you feel like they know what’s best for your child.
This is a recipe for disaster.
Our children do not belong to the state. Period.
You might be tempted to think that it’s summer and we can worry about this next session. But I can assure you, the politicians who spent time writing up these bills and sponsoring them are not sitting around waiting for session. They’re working to get as much support as possible so they can get their bills moving as soon as the legislature gavels back in.
