A dangerous new anti-homeschooling bill, L.B. 1224, is moving in the Nebraska legislature right now.
This bill has already been heard in the Education Committee, and now it’s awaiting an executive vote which would advance it on to the floor for a full vote.
That means we have a critical window of time to shut this bill down and we must oppose it now!
L.B. 1224 was introduced by a radical Leftist pro-abort named Megan Hunt and is being sold as a “child safety measure,” but in reality it creates sweeping new restrictions on homeschooling families and hands even more power to the State — which is always the Left’s goal!
Imagine being for the wanton killing of unborn children and then saying you’re concerned about the safety of children educated at home!
What this bill does is it:
❌Blocks families from starting homeschooling based on suspicion alone; If DHHS receives any report of abuse or neglect — even an anonymous, false, or unfounded report — parents would be prohibited from withdrawing their child to homeschool while an investigation drags on!
❌Creates government tracking of homeschool families; The state would be required to notify both the child’s school and the Commissioner of Education that the family is forbidden from homeschooling, permanently tying unproven accusations to education records.
❌Triggers law enforcement involvement automatically; If a parent attempts to file homeschool paperwork anyway or a school receives a transfer request, law enforcement must be notified immediately!
❌Creates a special criminal class for homeschoolers; Certain past convictions would permanently bar someone from teaching or supervising in a homeschool, even though courts already have authority to restrict parental rights when appropriate.
This bill sets a dangerous precedent; it makes it look like homeschooling itself is suspect or should be eyed as a potential wrong.
It allows the state to override parental rights for months, while dragging on a case that may never have been founded in the first place!
Imagine if your left-wing neighbor accused you of abuse for having a Conservative political figure’s sign in your yard or someone at your child’s school says they don’t think you’re a fit parent because you argued against their LGBTQXYZ agenda being in children’s textbooks!
The ways this bill will be weaponized against families are endless.
