I have an important update from Washington State on S.B. 6261, the bill that would have massively expanded state control over homeschool families with young children!
The good news first:
S.B. 6261Â was heard in committee earlier this week — and it did NOT pass out.
That is not an accident!
That happened because homeschool families like YOU flooded Olympia with emails, phone calls, and pressure.
Legislators heard from homeschoolers across Washington loud and clear, and insiders are now telling us the bill is not being moved forward.
That is a HUGE victory for homeschool freedom and HFC Nation is proud to do our part to win, especially in a deeply Democrat state like WA.
But this fight is NOT over.Â
Now we’re watching for the trick play.
You see, we’ve seen this move before.
Time and again, legislators introduce a terrible bill and the people get fired up to stop it.
Then they tell homeschoolers the bill is “dead,” wait until everyone goes home, defenses drop, attention shifts… and then they quietly pull the bill out of committee, throw it on the House or Senate floor for a vote, and ram it through before anyone can mobilize.
They lie.
They stall.
Then they strike.
This is a very real trick they play and we’ve seen it many times across the country!
That’s why we cannot take our foot off the gas, especially in Democrat-controlled state like Washington.
Remember, S.B. 6261 invites bureaucratic oversight, undermines parental authority, normalizes surveillance, shifts education from parents to the state and a lot more.
In short, it’s generally every single thing people like you and I HATE about government intrusion into our children’s education!
The only thing keeping S.B. 6261 bottled up right now is continued pressure.
And that pressure must stay on until session ENDS in Olympia in the middle of March!
Why? Because a bill is only dead when it’s DEAD.
