Tennessee Homeschoolers Are Under Threat – We Need You to Act

Homeschoolers in Tennessee are under direct threat and we must fight back now!

Two new bills targeting homeschool families are moving through the legislature, and they carry real-life consequences for every homeschooler in the state.

This is not the moment to sit quietly and hope it blows over because it’s not a Democrat pushing this legislation.

If it were, homeschoolers might assume the bill is dead. But this bill is sponsored by Republicans, and the GOP controls the legislature!

The first bill, S.B. 1938 / H.B. 1823, is a truancy bill that would prevent families from starting to homeschool if their child had received the label of ‘truant’ (skipping school) from a government school.

Who gets to decide if they can homeschool their kids? Not the parents!

The parents would have to stand before a judge and a JUDGE gets to decide if they may homeschool.

This will dramatically affect thousands of families who are trying to ESCAPE government schooling, all because the school itself decided to label them ‘truant’ to prevent them from homeschooling.

This bill didn’t come out of thin air!

Activist judges have already publicly called for more homeschool regulation, making up wild theories about their “concerns” with great homeschool families.

Perhaps these judges should better spend their time putting violent criminals in prison and less time invading the lives of homeschoolers.

The second bill, H.B. 1729 / S.B. 2636, lays out specific test score rules that would let the state step in and force homeschool kids back into public school.

That power is already in Tennessee law, but it’s almost never been used — until now.

By tightening up the score triggers, it sure looks like lawmakers are getting ready to start enforcing it.

They’re dressing this up by saying families will have more options for where testing happens, but the real change is giving the state clearer power to step in and force homeschool children into their schools!

HFC could not be more opposed to this.

This is why silence isn’t an option. If these bills pass, families will face more legal hurdles and barriers just to homeschool their kids!

Lawmakers are watching to see how homeschool families respond.

We need to make it clear we’re paying attention and we’re not backing down.

Whatever you do, please send your email and oppose this attack on homeschool freedom. If we don’t speak up now, the damage will be much harder to undo later!
